Vitamin Scare for Women?

I want to reiterate here what I wrote in the paper this week. Apparently the news is going around that women should stop taking multi-vitamins due to a “study” that linked higher mortality rates in women to multi-vitamin use. After investigation, the study in question was the Iowa Women’s Health Study that covered 18 years and 39,000 women. The study showed that there was a slight increase in mortality in women taking vitamins with iron and copper. Also found is that the study was a “retrospective study” and was conducted purely from surveys! Answers, doses, types and durations were never verified. This was a very weak “scientific” study and seriously one cannot draw a real conclusion! Therefore, don’t believe everything you hear or read in the media – do your homework! Most people do need a high-quality vitamin/mineral dietary supplement to complement today’s nutritional challenges. We offer testing in our office to find your deficiencies and we also have several lines of high-quality vitamins and supplements!
