Help for Menopause

A short time ago, a Federal study designed to evaluate combination Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), specifically Prempo, was terminated three years early because the results demonstrated a 26% increase in breast cancer among participants, as well as increases in blood clots (100%), strokes (41%), and heart attacks (29%).

Chiropractors and other holistic care providers breathed a collective sigh of relief, as we have known about these concerns for quite awhile and were waiting with bated breath for something to be done about it. Chiropractors, in lieu of medications, educate women with evidence based care, offer regular chiropractic care, and life-style adjustments (exercises, stretches, diet changes, and supplementation) to alleviate the symptoms of menopause.

Chiropractors, unlike doctors, approach menopause as part of a life cycle event, not a deficiency. As such, as the body is changing, your chiropractor can come along side of you to help you navigate your bodies changes and alleviate any discomforts associated with it.

We know that Baby Boomers, as their bodies are changing, are seeking answers for their questions about menopause. Most of the women who seek HRT are looking for relief from hot flashes and night sweats. But, in order to treat you best, a chiropractor might have some questions of their own for you, including:

  • How do you perceive menopause?
  • What lifestyle choices are increasing your level of stress and physical/emotional/mental disorganization?
  • Did you use hormonal birth control during your childbearing years?
  • How many children did you birth, how did you birth them, and did you breastfeed them for any time?
  • What environmental, societal, and medical/nutritional situations were you exposed to during your childhood (hormones in food, vaccinations, etc..)
  • What other options/treatments are you currently using/considering?

To help a woman through this life change, and increase the function and quality of life during this change, your provider should be asking better questions beyond "what pill can I give you".

Chiropractic care, nutritional therapy, and lifestyle changes have been shown to, when combined, relieve or completely eradicate hot flashes and night sweats, along with many other symptoms of menopause, such as abnormal cycle, mood changes, and weight gain.
