Summer Outings

Summer is a time for hikes and bike rides, camping and travel. While out enjoying the summer, consider your bodies needs.

Long Car Rides remember to not slouch in the seat of a car. This can be difficult, especially if you have bucket seats. Consider getting a lower back arch to keep your spine in proper alignment. Take breaks often and stretch during them, focusing on your neck, back, shoulders and arms, and pelvis.

Hiking Hiking is a great form of exercise, but remember to wear proper footwear and watch your step. A stumble, even if you don't fall, can cause lower back, shoulder, and neck pain. If traveling with small children and wearing a carrier of some sort, choose a carrier that will promote healthy development for baby and proper posture/less strain for yourself.

Biking It doesn't matter if you are 2 or 92, you should always wear a helmet. If you do have a crash, a helmet will protect your skull and brain, while also giving your neck extra support during any collision involving your neck/head.

Camping Take care of yourself through lifting items with your knees, not your back, and look into investing on a good inflatable mattress. These two small steps can save you strain and sleepless nights.

And finally, as with any outdoor activity, hydrate with water and remember that you can still eat a clean diet while on vacation! Simple, smart steps can make or break a great summer vacation!
